Malone steps down (3-2-11)

LUCERNE VALLEY • As the Municipal Advisory Council welcomed its newest member, it also lost its former chairman.

Tony Malone stepped down from the MAC at the Feb. 22 meeting after three years as chairman and 10 years as a MAC member. (Malone said he was involved with the MAC for several years prior in an unofficial capacity.)

Malone said he had been planning to step down for about a year. He said he’d like to focus on his duties as renewable energy instructor at Victor Valley College and an energy lecturer at various high schools, but he will remain involved in the community.

Malone said the timing was right because the MAC had just added Jean Magee to fill a vacancy on the board. For more from Malone, see his letter to the editor on Page 4.

MAC member Richard Selby was elected chairman and Magee was elected vice chairperson at last week’s meeting. Both Selby and Magee are also Lucerne Valley Economic Development Association board members.

The MAC now consists of Selby, Magee, Jean Fuqua and Jeanmarie Taylor, who missed last week’s meeting due to illness but reportedly plans to attend the March meeting.

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors will have to appoint a new MAC member to fill the spot vacated by Malone.
