LUCERNE VALLEY - Cemetery headstones at Lucerne Valley Memorial Park and the snack bar at Pioneer Park were among the items destroyed and defaced Wednesday night when a vandal or group of vandals when on a "tagging" spree in the community.
Officials from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department have not said whether they have any suspect leads at this time.
CSA 29’s Robert Otwell said that he first discovered the vandalism at Pioneer Park early Thursday morning when he noticed a burst water line at the snack bar, where the swamp cooler had been ripped off the roof.
He then headed to the Lucerne Valley Memorial Park where an entire wall near the rose garden was covered in expletives and inappropriate drawings. Headstones were also vandalized, some with swastikas painted on them.
“I just can’t believe people would do something like this,” Otwell said.
Millie Rader, head of the Cemetery Committee for the Municipal Advisory Council said: "I am very disappointed that someone would come in and desecrate the Lucerne Valley Memorial Park where many of our long-time residents are buried. I hope that anyone with any information will contact the CSA office in order to keep this from happening again."
