Our Free February Special was a big success. A steady stream of new subscriptions came in throughout the month. I don’t have a final tally right now, but I can tell you we got more new subscribers in one month than we usually get in a year.
With the end of the special comes the end of our color printing — for now, anyway. The community response to the color look was overwhelmingly positive, and I’m hoping we can print The Leader in color at some point in the future, maybe at least once a month.
Though we’re back to good ol’ black and white for now, I hope you’ll find that the paper is just as informative and useful as it was in color. It just doesn’t look quite as pretty, that’s all.
A big “Thank You” to: Publisher Stephan Wingert for coming up with the idea, Freedom Communications Regional Circulation Sales Manager Johna Freeman (who happens to live in Lucerne Valley) for overseeing many aspects of the promotion, Lucerne Valley Market and Hardware for participating with gift cards and free papers in the store, and our press room, mail room and circulation departments for printing the paper and making sure it gets into your hands. And, of course, everyone who subscribed.
If you missed the promotion, you can still subscribe for $16.65. Just give us a call at (760) 248-7878.
• ENOUGH ALREADY: A while back, I wrote about how excited Californians seem to get when we see rain and snow.
But now it seems the exuberance has faded a bit, and the cold weather is wearing out its welcome. Though last weekend’s storm wasn’t exactly the apocalyptic event some were predicting, it was cold enough to make some of us long for spring.
I, for one, have seen enough. Bring on the sunshine.
• QUESTIONS COMING IN: Last week’s debut of the Lucerne Valley Q&A column has gotten an enthusiastic response. I’ve received enough questions to keep me busy for a while, but please keep them coming. Send me your questions about our community to me at the e-mail address listed below, or mail them to: The Leader, P.O. Box 299, Lucerne Valley, CA 92356.
