A total of 157 mountain bikers, runners and walkers gathered in Lucerne Valley on Saturday to raise money for local students.
The Mitsubishi Cement Corporation Educational Foundation’s Ride in the Rocks event was back in Lucerne Valley for the third time after taking 2010 off.
Organizer Millie Rader said the fundraiser picked up right where it left off, with a strong turnout, energetic volunteers and a long list of sponsors.
The event raised money for science and technology education at Lucerne Valley Elementary School and Lucerne Valley Middle/High School.
The most adventurous mountain bikers were offered a 22-mile course that started at Lucerne Valley High School and took them all over the valley. More casual riders took on the 10-mile course, and there was also a 5-mile ride and run/walk. The event drew locals as well as serious riders from throughout the region.
